Will I Save Money?

If you have a low water consumption, it is possible that you could reduce your water and sewerage bill by opting to have your water supplied through a water meter. Water and sewerage charges for metered supplies are based on the volume of water supplied. Customers who are interested should contact our Customer Accounts Department on 01978 833200 to discuss the possible savings with you. Alternatively, you can apply for our free leaflet 'Metered Water and Sewerage Charges' which describes charging by meter and likely costs.

Can I change back?

The meters are installed free of charge and are usually installed externally to your property at the point where the Company's responsibility for the pipework ends. Once a meter has been installed, you have the option to revert back to charging by rateable value at any time up to 12 months after the installation of the meter. After that time you must remain on a metered supply

Reading My Meter.

We will read your meter at the same time as we we read other meters in your area. This may mean that your first bill could arrive soon after we have fitted your meter. Your bills will then be issued at three monthly intervals.

If we are unable to read the meter on a visit, we will estimate how much water you have used based on what you have used before. We will then make the necessary changes when we next read your meter. If you think our estimate is wrong, you can ring us with your own reading.
Or you can return the bill with your reading and we will then send you a new bill.

See figure below on how to read your meter

What do I do Next?

If you wish to convert to a metered supply you must complete an application form (Measured Charges Notice) and return it to the Company. If the Company has not installed your meter within 3 months of the date of the application being received, you will receive a bill based on the average metered bill in our area. Any final adjustment to your bill will be made once your actual use has been established. This would normally be after two quarters readings.

If it is necessary to carry out any additional work to install a meter at a location other than the Company's choice, this work can be carried out on a charged basis by ourselves or a private contractor.

Where it is impossible to fit a meter the customer can opt for an assessed charge. Details of this service are available on request.
