Set in picturesque surroundings in the North Wales countryside, the reservoirs at Ty Mawr and Penycae are only minutes away from Wrexham and Chester. There are three reservoirs, Ty Mawr 20 acres, Penycae Upper 7 acres and Penycae Lower 5 acres, each offering superb fishing in surroundings enhanced by peace and quiet. We recognise that true anglers do not want to stand shoulder to shoulder, so we take positive steps to maintain the quality of the day’s fishing. Ty Mawr and Penycae are only 2 miles apart but offer completely different conditions. So, whichever way the wind blows there is always good fishing available. Ty Mawr is the largest reservoir with more open banks. It is stocked with rainbows and has a head of natural brown trout. There is an excellent evening hatch of sedge from mid June until the end of August, offering perhaps the most exciting fishing around. Penycae offers two smaller reservoirs each totally different in character. The adjacent forest and countryside provides an abundance of fly life and the opportunity for the rest of the family to enjoy a walk whilst the angler concentrates on the more serious business. The reservoirs are stocked predominantly with fish of 1½lb-2½lb, with some larger fish to 6lb introduced through the season. The natural brown trout at the three reservoirs provide excellent sport, but we do ask that they are returned unharmed to grow on for the future.
